Botanical Gardens

Sunday afternoon we took a trip to the botanical gardens which are located about 5 minutes from our house!  Sydney napped the entire time and we enjoyed being outside in the gorgeous weather.

This picture is for Brian and my Dad:
The national park stocks the lake and allows children to make their own fishing poles and then go fishing.  This picture doesn't do justice to how many fish were right in front of us swimming around.  Dave said that's the last time he is hiking up to Lake Poway to attempt to fish and come home empty handed :)

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

We helped celebrate Dave's 32nd birthday on Saturday!!!

Sydney rested up for the BIG day by taking a nap while Daddy went for a run
Enjoying our first meal out as a family of 3!  We went to our favorite sushi restaurant in Kailua and Sydney did AWESOME !!   At the end of our meal she gave Daddy a diaper blowout ALL OVER her car seat as a birthday present which he really appreciated  :)
After lunch (and cleaning up the mess), we headed over to Lanikai Beach for the afternoon.  Dave went snorkeling while I fed her and then we enjoyed the gorgeous weather.

This view never gets old
Neither does this one :)
Happy Birthday, Dave!!!  We love you.

Happy Weekend

Some pictures from the past week!
My sister Lisa's girlfriends have all dressed their little girls up in this outfit.   The tag says  0-3 months but as you can see from the picture below, her head must be larger than the average 3 month old...
She was as happy as can be when I put this hat on - kept on kicking her legs and smiling.
Hat was a little too snug so we just went with it next to her head.

Happy girl!

Hanging out during tummy time
Love this one!

Run Sydney Run!

I had my 6 week post-partum doctor's visit yesterday and as soon as she said that I was cleared to resume all pre-pregnancy activities, we were out the door for a run.  I quickly learned that this run was more of a slow jog/walk and I'm out of running shape but it felt soooooo good to be out there again.  I haven't run since the day we found out we were pregnant!

My new running partner seemed to enjoy the run as well:

I woke up this morning thinking that my legs were going to be the sorest muscle but surprisingly enough, it was my abs who have not received a workout in about a year as well!

Video of smiling = fail.

Sydney was all smiles this morning so I decided to try and get it on camera...of course as soon as I pull the camera out, she stops smiling.
Figured the grandparents may enjoy seeing her (even if she's not smiling...)

Bottle time

For the past week and a half, we have tried giving Sydney a bottle...um, it's not working out so well.  I'm continuing to breastfeed but like the idea of being able to leave her for longer than 2 hours if need be and know that she won't be screaming when I come home.

We finally got her to eat about 1 oz. of milk the other night so we'll chalk that up as a success.  I'm hoping she'll take a whole bottle by Sunday so I can attend a girls day out but I think that's wishful thinking at this point.  If not, I'll go for about 2 hours and then head home.

Aaaahhhh!!!

So this is what sleep feels like :)  Sydney has been doing GREAT sleeping at night!  For the past week she has been sleeping a 5-6 hour stretch every night, will wake up to feed, and then will go back down for another 2-3 hours!  For the past two nights, she has slept for a 7 hour stretch!  Hoping this continues :)  Naps are still hit or miss --- she takes them but where she sleeps and for how long is the wild card!!
Getting ready to swaddle her up

We found this blanket (Swaddle Me) that has velcro which holds a swaddle wrap more secure than the ones we could make with a regular blanket...we like to call it her straight jacket. It's a lifesaver and I'm convinced it's what helps her sleep long stretches at night since her hands can't shoot up above her head and startle her.

Obviously not the best picture of me but I love how she's almost already asleep 2 seconds after we put her in it.

Doctor's visit

We had Sydney's one month check up yesterday and the doc said she's doing great!  She now tips the scales at 9 lbs. 15 oz!!  Guess she's eating just fine!

Dave got her to smile at him for the first time yesterday and of course I couldn't capture it on camera.  As soon as he was making her smile, I pulled out the camera and tried to take a picture but it was still on the 10 sec. timer setting from our failed family photo session so of course I missed it.  This is the best I could get:

It's incredible how much more alert she is these days.

I'll probably jinx myself by putting this on the blog but last night she slept for a 6 1/2 hour stretch followed by a 3 1/2 hour stretch.  We're keeping our fingers crossed this pattern sticks but knowing my luck, she'll be up all night tonight!

1 Month!

Can't believe our little one is already 1 month old. It's true when people say to enjoy each moment because they grow up too fast -- although we would be ok if she wanted to start sleeping through the night now :) We have SO enjoyed the past month and can't wait to see what the upcoming ones bring.

Can't believe this was only a month ago:
40 weeks, 4 days.  I was SO ready to be done.
1 day old.  Seems like so long ago.
She's changed so much in a month!
Daddy and Sydney - 1 month old
Mommy and Sydney - 1 month old

This was comical... we tried to get a family picture using the timer on the camera.  Sydney was obviously over the photo shoots.  Guess we'll do a take II next month:

It's been an amazing month.  We love her to pieces and look forward to the upcoming months.

Nap Strike

We've quickly learned that Sydney is not a fan of napping during the day in her crib or cradle.  Thankfully, she has no problem sleeping in her cradle at night but she doesn't want to miss any of the action during the day...which means we have to get creative with where she falls asleep/takes her nap.  And, don't you dare try and move her from wherever she is sleeping to her crib because she will wake up and not fall back asleep (yes, we've learned the hard way...)
In her high chair
Sleeping on daddy

I think the cradle may be more comfortable...
In her bouncy seat after tub-tub.
In her carseat on a walk in the stroller
On daddy again.
