Sydney loves looking at books and having us read to her. Dave has taught her how to turn the pages in a book. Here is a quick video:

Like mother like daughter
My mom is in New York this week cleaning out my grandparents house and just sent me this picture she found! It took me a minute to realize it was me as a baby and not Sydney.
We tried to get Syd to pose the same way but no luck with the tongue.
I think it's safe to say we both enjoy our meals :)
Thanks for sending, Mom. We got a kick out of the picture!

Great Aloha Run
Earlier this week, I participated in the Great Aloha Run which is a race along Nimitz Highway in Honolulu that stretches from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium. It was an 8.15 mile course that over 21,000 people ran/walked in!
I felt great the entire run and accomplished my goals of doing it under 1:20 and running the whole way. I ended up finishing in 1:06 and later found out that I finished 1,027 out of over 21,000 people. Must be all of the spam musabi's and loco moco's people eat over here :)

Start line - it took me 15 minutes just to cross the start line!
Crossing the finishing line (don't mind the proof on the photo - I'm not spending $18 on a 5 x 7 photo of me that I'll never look at again)
Dave insisting on a picture with my finisher t-shirt :)
Wouldn't be a Hawaiian run without a shaka
This little one put up with a lot of stroller rides!
I couldn't have done this without Dave! He encouraged me to sign up and motivated me to go out for my longer runs on the weekends while he watched Sydney.

Latest face
Seems like every week Sydney is making a new face. Two weeks ago she couldn't stop sucking her bottom lip and last week her tongue was constantly out. Her latest trick is smiling with her mouth WIDE open. It's hilarious!
Weekend fun
The past couple of weekends we have gone out and done some exploring. Here are some pics of what we have been up to:
This is the view from a bar we recently found on a military base. Incredible!
Wish the food and decor were better but I guess the scenery makes up for it.
We headed up to the North Shore last weekend to check out the waves. The pictures don't do it justice - sets were 15 - 20'!
We checked out the UH - Oregon baseball game on Sunday! These were the best seats they had available!
Sydned LOVED the game! She was taking everything in and wouldn't stop smiling/talking.
Don't let her fool you - she had fun!

Peas!
We started Sydney on vegetables this week! First up...peas (one of Mommy's favorites growing up).
She didn't love them but didn't hate them. We'll keep trying them for a few days and then move onto the next vegetable.

Happy Valentine's Day!
I thought I knew what love was when I got married but after having Sydney, it's been taken to another level! Love these two I get to spend my days with and so thankful for all of the love we are surrounded by with family and friends!
Ended our day with heart shaped home made pizza!

Fun with Daddy!
No wonder why she's a daddy's girl... he's so much more fun that mommy!! Last night when I got out of the shower, I heard them making all sorts of noise when she was in the bath. Turns out daddy was teaching her how to splash!!
These pictures aren't of Syd in the bath but I thought they were cute! They were looking at themselves in a mirror!

Found her tongue
Sydney found her tongue last week and has been sticking it out all the time now!
Sitting up like a big girl!
And here comes the tongue!

Ko'Olina
We headed over to the other side of the island on Saturday to hang out at the lagoons in Ko'Olina. Lisa and Rich used to live over there so it was weird going there but not seeing them.
There are four known lagoons plus a couple of 'secret' lagoons. KoOlina was crowded on Saturday so opted for one of the secret lagoons (not in front of a resort hotel and publicized).
Sydney was such a trooper! Happily played on the towel in the shade for a couple of hours.
There are a couple of turtles that swim around the lagoon and this one decided to take a break!
So fun to be able to get so close.
We put on her bathing suit so she could try out the water for a little bit - it was still too cold for her taste!
But she was happy just relaxing in her bumbo seat!
She was fascinated by the sand.

6 months!
6 months...already! Time needs to slow down.
She is still breastfeeding and we've added in some rice cereal before she goes to bed at night (and daddy feeds her rice cereal on the weekend mornings so I can sleep in!!!). Judging by her legs, we think she can stand to miss a meal or two (kidding...)
She is a great sleeper! She naps 2-3 times a day for 30 minutes- 90 minutes each time and goes to bed between 6-6:30 at night and will sleep until 6:30 - 7 a.m., usually waking up once to eat.
She will put anything in her mouth. Toys, books, fingers, you name it! No teeth yet but I'm convinced her gums bother her from time to time.
She lights up when daddy comes home from work every night. The second he walks in the door and says her name, she will find him and give him the biggest toothless grin - it's priceless!
She still goes to daycare two days a week while I go into the office for a few hours. I think it's great for all of us! The woman who watches her also takes care of her 13 month old grandson while her daughter works part-time so its perfect! Sydney and her grandson get along so well and it's fun to see them interact with each other.
She is so alert and doesn't like to miss anything. If we're out and about, she usually won't nap because she is checking out her new surroundings. On all of our flights last month, it was like her head was on a constant swivel - always looking around!
She is babbling up a storm these days. No real words yet but if this is any indication for what's to come, we are going to have a talker!
We love you baby girl. Happy half birthday.
