Veteran's Day

Veteran's Day fell on a Wednesday this year and all of the local schools were closed on the 11th but the middle school and high school here had a large ceremony on Tuesday morning.

We walked over to the high school football field to check it out:

It was exceptionally COLD for Southern California this morning.  It was about 60 degrees ( I know, I know it sounds warm) but the wind was was strong and cold it felt much cooler.

There are normally parachuters that jump with American flags and land on the football field but they had to cancel it this year due to the crazy wind.  The plane kept flying overhead in hopes that the wind would die down but it never did.  The kids were a little disappointed (but quickly got over it) and now refer to the football field as the place where the people jumping out of airplanes didn't get to because of the wind :)  

Tuesday night we went out to Coronado Brewing Company (CBC) because it was kids night (kids eat free and they offer kids entertainment) and because there was no school/work the next day.

Wednesday morning we headed downtown to watch the Veterans Day parade.  We had a great front row view with space in front of us so the kids could move around

They had this huge dinosaur cut out next to where we were watching the parade as an ad for their upcoming movie.  They took the pics and then texted them to you - pretty neat.

Happy Veterans Day!  We are so thankful for those who have served and are currently serving our country.  

Halloween

We started out Halloween with brunch at Nani & Poppa's house.  Lisa and I brought the costumes for all of the kids in hopes to get a great cousin costume photo but that never happened :(  Lis was able to get a pic of these two sweet girls.  Ella was Doc McStuffins (her coat and stethoscope are somewhere in the house) and Sydney was My Little Pony in the morning. 

We headed back to Coronado with full bellies and got ready to go trick or treating to the businesses along Orange Avenue.  Most stores handed out candy from 3:30-5 - perfect for those with small kiddos!

Orange Avenue was crazy packed!!!  There were so many people but the kiddos loved being able to see the other kids dressed up in costume during the daylight so it was worth it.

Sydney trick-or-treating

We got home and Daddy quickly carved a jack-o-lantern with one of the pumpkins we painted while we got some dinner ready to eat before trick-or-treaters came.  

We asked Sydney if she wanted to go out trick-or-treating on our street or if she wanted to pass out candy - she chose pass out candy and asked to change into her jammies :)

She was SO great at it!!! Our neighborhood was PACKED and we quickly ran out of candy, even agter dumping the kids loot from Orange Avenue into our bucket to hand out.  So, we turned off our light and Sydney and Cole asked to go back out for a little bit.  

Came home and they both dumped out their bags to check out their treats.  

The day after Halloween they asked to do their own face paint.  We said "Sure!" and they went to town.  

The end product.  *This was NOT fun trying to wipe off ...lesson learned*

And Cole got to be Minnie Mouse!  He was excited until I pulled out the camera to take his picture, I promise!

Finishing off October

Sydney surprised us with notes under our pillows before bed one day.  She wrote all of our names herself :) 

I got Dave a "Taste of Coronado" for his birthday - over 30 restaurants/shops in Coronado participated one evening and provided tastings for guests.  You could walk (or trolley) up/down Orange Avenue (the main street) and have food/drinks.  The tasting above was at the first restaurant we sat down at - Peohe's.  We got there before the crowds and even got a seat with a view of the bay.  Needless to say, we were both stuffed at the end of the night!

I took the kids to a puppet theater in Balboa Park with some friends right before Halloween.  It was a "witches brew" themed puppet show.  A lot of it was over their heads but they still talk about it so I think they had a good time.

She found a stick on the ground, picked it up and said, "look!  It's a Y!"  And it was :)
