This past weekend we took a short flight over to Kona on Hawaii Island (the Big Island). Dave and I went to the Hilo side almost 2 years ago to see the volcano and do some hiking so this trip was primarily for relaxing!
We stayed at an amazing resort where they had everything you needed right there so you never had to leave. It was definitively designed with families in mind as there were several pools, water slides, a lazy river, dolphin encounter, you name it! It was so large that they had a monorail and a boat shuttle to get you from one side of the resort to the other.
Dave enjoying his vacation drink :)
This is the beach right outside the hotel. Not exactly good for laying out but this
was a hot surf spot with the locals.
There was a walkway right outside of the hotel taht reminded us of KoOlina on Oahu. There was a golfcourse with a lake and walking trail which led you to a bunch of small shops/restaurants! I loved it.
After we went to happy hour, we decided to feed Sydney her dinner while we watched the sunset! So pretty.
She kept squealing she was so excited!!
They had paddle boats, stand up paddle boarding, kayaks, etc. right at the hotel.
LOVED the water!!
One of the pools
This was a great kids pool that had sand on the bottom and was only about 2 feet deep.
Trainers feeding the dolphins - this was right next to one of the restaurants at the hotel so we were able to watch while we were eating lunch!
So cute!
Sydney was such a trooper! Although she didn't love sleeping in a hotel, she was such a happy baby the entire weekend!
Had to stop at the Kona Brewery for lunch before catching our flight back home.
Recently, Dave reminded me that we're not going to be able to hop on a 30 minute flight to another ISLAND at every duty station... so, we're trying to take advantage of our time here.
It was a wonderful weekend away but I think all 3 of us were excited to be back in our own beds on Sunday night!
